Comb's Wood4.5 milesIf you have a little bit more time, this second route option is basically an extension of the first walk. Half way around the route, you'll also pass the outskirts of the Henry Moore gardens where you can grab a sneaky peak of some of the sculptures from the public footpaths. To get to Great Gaddesden, you will walk along a lovely stretch of the Chiltern Way, and heading back you will ramble along the Hertfordshire Way, walking through the Goo Wood on the way. The regional Cycle Route 12, known as the Tudor Trail, runs from Tonbridge Castle to Penshurst Place in Kent. There are plenty of ways to extend it and there are lots of woods to dive into for den building, bluebell admiring (mid April to mid May) or welly-muddying. There are several play areas along the route as well as a sculpture trail. The Nickey Line from Harpenden to Hemel Hempstead (not that we have managed to walk that far with the kids yet) is one of the best footpath walks in Hertfordshire. The sculpture trail is ideal if youre looking for an easy walk in Hertfordshire with toddlers as the artworks entice little people along the one kilometre route. This is a gentle, level 2.2 mile walk around Sefton Park. We have got to know our local area pretty well over the last year, trying out new family-friendly walks in Hertfordshire, and have discovered some real gems.
